The Hermes Lite 2 is an innovative QRP HF SDR Transceiver, but it is lacking a few features which make both CW and SSB operation complete.  For CW, there is no keyer, no local sidetone, and considerable latency.  For SSB, there is no local microphone jack.

 

 

The Companion Board is easily installed and adds several features that really enhance operation of the Hermes Lite 2. Here's what it does:

  • Adds a headphone "PHONES" jack to the front panel with sidetone in CW mode
  • Adds a microphone "MIC" jack with PTT to the front panel
  • Adds an IAMBIC keyer to the "KEY" jack, a straight or external keyer usage is preserved, and there is even an electronic bug mode
  • Adds a control interface with PTT and band switching which follows the transceiver for the Hardrock-50 amplifier and the ICOM AH4 antenna tuner.
  • Adds a local speaker output, with sidetone in CW mode

The AK4951 V4.0 Companion Board Kit  will come preassembled and tested and ready for installation. For installation instructions, click the link on the right side of the page.  By installing the Companion Board and loading its associated Gateware, you make your Hermes Lite 2 into a Hermes Lite 2 Plus with the features listed above.  

 

The picture on the left shows the contents of the Hermes Lite 2 Companion Board kit. It is complete except for a speaker whereas previous kits required the user to build the HR-50 interface cable, supply a power switch and wiring for it.  

The DB9 cable is a ubiquitous PC serial port ribbon cable and will be supplied, with mounting hardware, along with a power switch and a two-wire harness with 2-pin PCB header for use with that. The rear panel is revised and now includes an extra SMA hole for a Pure Signal cable if the user desires to install a pigtail for this.  

Lastly, I have incorporated Icom AH4 Tuner accommodations which has been discussed on the forum of recent.

The  AH4 will be able to be controlled through the same DB9 used for the HR-50 (with a user-built cable).

June 27th 2023 Update:

The first half of the run of 20) kits have been sent in the order they were on the list.  The second half of the 20) kits should be finished soon and I will continue the process the orders. 


This still leaves about 20) more folks wanting kits.  Thank you for your interest!  Please be patient, I am working to build additional kits as quickly as possible.  Will advise.
